Quick Start Guide
Get up and running with Gmail to Jira in under 5 minutes.
Installation
Install from Google Workspace Marketplace
Visit the Google Workspace Marketplace and search for "Gmail to Jira by Innova Apps". Click "Install" to add it to your Gmail.
Grant Permissions
Review and accept the permissions required for the add-on to read your email content and create Jira issues on your behalf.
First-Time Setup
Open in Gmail
Open Gmail and select any email. Look for the Gmail to Jira icon in the right sidebar panel (you may need to click the "+" icon to expand add-ons).
Connect to Jira
Click "Connect to Jira" and authorize the add-on to access your Jira Cloud workspace. You'll be redirected to Atlassian to complete the OAuth authentication.
Select Your Site
If you have multiple Jira sites, select the one you want to use. Your selection will be remembered for future sessions.
Creating Your First Issue
Open an Email
Open any email in Gmail that you want to convert into a Jira issue. Click the Gmail to Jira icon in the sidebar.
Let AI Generate Content
Click "Generate with AI" to automatically create a summary, title, and description from your email content. Review and edit as needed.
Select Project & Issue Type
Choose the destination Jira project and issue type (e.g., Task, Bug, Story). Fill in any additional required fields.
Create Issue
Click "Create Issue" to submit. You'll see a success message with a direct link to your new Jira issue.
Tips for Best Results
- Use AI generation for initial drafts, then refine the text
- Set up default project and issue type to speed up creation
- Include relevant labels and components for better organization
- Use the priority field to indicate urgency
